The real “Fault in our stars” couple dies within 5 days of each other. Dalton Prager, only twenty-five years old, died Saturday in Missouri of Cystic Fibrosis, and his wife Katie Prager, at twenty-six, died Thursday in Flemingsburg, Kentucky, from complications due to Cystic Fibrosis and a lung Transplant.
Katie defied her doctor’s wishes on August 28, 2009. Dalton and his mother drove more than 6 hours to meet Katie at a Dairy Queen. Katie remembered precisely the time, 7:10 pm; Katie got out of the car and saw Dalton leaned against a brick wall. “My heart was racing, but I went right up to him and hugged him and kissed his on the mouth without even saying hello. I’m usually not that type of girl, but it felt right.”
When Dalton passed away, Katie posted on Facebook, “Dalton has fought a long hard battle with cystic fibrosis. He was a courageous fighter and “give up” wasn’t in his vocabulary.” The last time they saw each other was on July 16th, their 5th wedding anniversary. Their love story was short, but a day before Katie died she said “ I think if we had gotten a chance to write a book it would have been a best seller, she had always known how the fairy tale would end.” She said. Her mother posted on Facebook after Katie passed, “early in the morning, Katie gained her wish of being at home, in her bed, surrounded by her mom, dad, brother, and her dogs, dying peacefully away from the hospital tubes, IVS. The days to follow will not be easy but I find comfort in knowing that my girl lived, she really lived.”
