Election Night Suprise

On Tuesday, November eighth, the future of the country was put into the voters hands. The Clinton foundation believed the election to be in the bag, but this proved to be more difficult than expected.

Trump came out to an early lead with several of the southern and eastern states projecting him to win. States such as Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee quickly projected Trump to win, while the swing states like Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina took their sweet time before finally announcing Trump as the projected winner in their states. Pennsylvania even turned away from the stereotypical democratic vote and predominately voted for Trump.

The northeast, as expected voted for Hillary to have the projected Electoral College win, but at a surprising turn of events, Clinton lost several swing states that were seemingly in her favor like Michigan and Wisconsin.

Most of the Midwest was covered in red on election night other than Colorado and New Mexico who overwhelmingly supported Mrs. Clinton. The western coast was solid blue on the other hand, Hillary got the extreme electoral power over California, a whooping fifty-five votes, and she also got Oregon and Washington with seven and twelve Electoral College votes respectively.

“Trump will turn this country around.” Justin Ellis, a junior student, claimed after the results of the election came in.

It truly came down to the swing states tonight that allowed Trump to actually achieve a good number of electoral votes. In the end Trump received a projected 279 Electoral College votes compared to Clinton’s 228 votes.

Congratulations and good luck to the forty-fifth president of the United States, Mr. Donald J. Trump.
