The Story of Buddy the Elf- On Stage!

We’ve all got together with our families at some point during the holiday season to watch the hilarious Will Ferrell Movie, “Elf”. Well, last week, thousands of families came to watch it at Dothan’s Cultural Arts Center. The only difference was that it was a musical, and was performed live by young actors of Spark Theater Company. Two of the actors being from Ariton. Dalton and Seth Causey. Dalton, playing the grinchy 85 year old, Mr. Greenway, and his little brother, Seth, playing one of Santa’s Elves. Dalton went through 2 hours of special effects makeup to make him look as if he was older than dirt. The Set Design was also done by Dalton. The show ran from November 30th, through December 3rd. There were two day shows on Friday, December 2nd, for schools all over the wiregrass to come to. Over 650 students came. The Friday Night show, however, was completely sold out. Not one seat was empty, they were all filled with kids and parents laughing and enjoying themselves. The role of Buddy the Elf was played by the amazingly talented Jake Rainey of Headland, Alabama. “The only who could’ve played Buddy better than Jake would probably be Will Ferrell. But he didn’t audition.” said Caleb Brooks, the Director of Elf. This was the first time Elf the Musical, Jr. had been done anywhere in or around Dothan. Jake was the Wiregrass’s first “Buddy”. The show’s last run was Saturday, December 3rd, and it was absolutely amazing. Spark Theater’s next performance will be of Legally Blonde the Musical, Jr. in February of 2017.
